Tuan Wreh Fashion Institute provides Fashion Training to Students in Liberia
MONROVIA, Liberia – Dec. 23, 2017 – The newly formed Tuan Wreh Fashion Institute, founded and led by renowned Liberian fashion designer and humanitarian Kimma Wreh, was officially launched on November 27th, 2017 at the MCF Academy in Charlesville, Liberia. The parent non profit organization is KDE Disability Africa Foundation, an international 501(c)(3) charitable organization operating in Houston Texas and Monrovia, Liberia. The institute’s operations will be supported in partnership with the MacDella Cooper Foundation (MCF).
The objective of the non-profit educational initiative is to provide talented children and adults who are financially challenged with the opportunity to learn vocational skills and fashion training from notable industry professionals. The school will serve as a platform to advance the Liberian fashion industry, and to open doors for younger students to learn practical tailoring skills. This will permit more opportunities for students to earn an additional source of income, which can potentially eliminate poverty and provide a better life for their families.
Students will learn about basic to intermediate sewing skills for clothing, in addition to creating accessories such as handbags, necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Students who successfully complete the program will receive an official certificate of completion. The program will be administered by Mr. Emmanuel Divine Kpoto, and Mr. Obediah Williams will serve as the head instructor at the institute. So far, the classes at MCF Academy commenced with initial enrollment of 54 students from grades 6th through 10th.
The non-profit organization is named in honor of the late Liberian Senator Tuan Wreh of Grand Kru County, who served as former dean of the University of Liberia’s law school. In his lifetime, Wreh was also recognized as a Fulbright scholar, renowned journalist, and author of numerous book publications including Love of Liberty, Labor Law & Maritime Law books.
The MacDella Cooper Foundation, founded by Ambassador MacDella Cooper, operates as an international 501(c)(3) charitable organization in Liberia. The mission of MCF is to prepare, educate, train and motivate Africa’s most vulnerable children, disadvantaged youth and marginalized women to become productive contributors to their nation’s economic, social and political future. Their goal is to help as many as possible to break free from the vicious cycle of poverty.
The Tuan Wreh Fashion Institute is now accepting donations for sewing machines and supplies needed for future classroom instruction at MCF Academy in Liberia. Donations can be made via Go Fund Me: https://www.gofundme.com/
